I've been away for a while
OK, let's face it, nobody reads these useless blogs, but none the less, the optimist I am, I try to continue to say something, not just anything, but something positive. I spent the past month away from my little oasis on the Gatineau. I decided to respond to the clarion call to go out west. I made my way with one of my best friends, Phil Cohen, who just happens to be our local village poet. The best weather we could imagine greeted us at every train stop along the way in Jasper and Prince Rupert. The Rockies were magnificent! Phil was scintillating. Playing guitar, talking and partying in the dome car across the Prairies was sweet. We narrowly managed to avert a natural disaster in Bella Coola, and spent some very musical times in Williams and Pontzi Lake with my sister and family. The whole concept revolved around the fact that Phil Cohen was the Father of "The" Leonard Cohen, and I was his handler. We were on a mission to put the "e" on Clark road.

Now we know who to thank for "amending" the signs so... Thank you !
ReplyDeleteWe too drove down the road a few years ago to show our children the old homestead (which looked in very good shape) and the land their family used to farm...shame Reg had to sell the farm but it was too much for him on his own.
I am thrilled to hear from you. Reg was a good friend of mine and Kevin Cartwright and many others in Wakefield. He was a gentle and wise man. I remember he drove me (in his 90's) to his old homestead near the end of Clarke road years ago. I knew his name ended with an "e" and therefore assumed that the signage must be wrong. So our village poet and myself made it our mission to get a ladder and paint an "e" on Clark, in tribute to Reg and his family. The village poet and I made a trip together out west this year, and somehow it became symbolic of our adventure to paint the "e" on the signs along Clarke road. I am really touched that you noticed this and took the time to contact me.

I was at a loose end and casually roaming web sites and found yours. Your entry for Oct 20th 2010 had me somewhat pondering your message ! It was the final line of that date
"We were on a mission to put the "e" on Clark road".
Now I know the morons in charge of road signs in their wisdom made the sign without an "e", and someone did paint in an "e" many years ago.
Why do I care you may ask ?.......my husbands family are the Clarkes involved in Clarke road Reg was his Uncle.
Good luck with your mission Sir !!
